Voice notes for the absolute win. I love 'em! Sending, receiving, doing for myself when I want to rush off an idea for later. I've been using AudioPen for my own voice thoughts recently, so I can have it all transcribed. I may type quickly, but I talk much quicker!

They’re just infinitely useful aren’t they? Love that…weirdly, when I voice note myself I seize up! Ha! What’s that about?! Might check out AudioPen. Thank you for chatting. 😊

You're right, it's more difficult with those personal notes. Ways it's improved for me:

- Gets easier over time (good when you talk a lot like me!);

- I imagine I'm talking directly with someone in a conversation;

- In some cases, I work as if I'm against the clock;

- I may start by reiterating why I'm leaving the note in the first place (avoids the audio equivalent of "blank page syndrome"!).

Here's to many, many more voice notes! 😃

I found this conversation via Martin's essay on voice notes.

I'd left a comment about transcribing over there.

And I'm seeing that you have discussed it here.

Loved your piece, Penny. I don't think I've had an entire conversation via voice note; complete with howls of laughter :-)

Must try that.

Aww thanks Susanna! Choose your funniest friend and start regularly voice noting each other - it’s a hoot! 😂

Howls of laughter are definitely a plus point...I also like to sing too. My family beg to differ. 😆

I have just sang the first verse of Beyoncé’s Texas Hold Em song into a voice note to my friend 😂😂

It's funny to me that in a world where we're increasingly disconnected from each other, we view conversation as an intrusion - though, to be fair, the only people who tend to call me are usually cold calling and trying to sell me something. I'm all in for voice notes though! I love them and wouldn't manage to keep up with my messages if not for them.

I totally know what you mean and I do love conversation. And in fact, I have regular voice note conversations back and forth, all day 😂

Phone calls are still going on for me but I have to admit that often, my heart sinks when the phone goes. It’s weird, I know! Thanks for reading.

This rocks, Penny! In fact, I sat chuckling on the toilet this morning listening to my roommate’s voice note about a crazy silly dream she had last night. I would never have answered a phone call while I was “going,” but the beauty of listening to a voice note on my own time was my true friend this morning. I missed her dearly, as I’m on vacation with my mom and great aunt and uncle. I love my family, but hanging out with 60+ year olds for a week has me missing my youthful girlfriends. Lizzy’s voice note on the toilet was my little escape (I never thought I’d write a sentence like that).

Also, you’re so real about the honesty in emotion. I ripped my now ex-boyfriend a new one with a 10+ minute note last summer because I knew I wouldn’t be able to get my true message across if he was sitting on the other end of the line listening in real time. The voice note gave me the opportunity to be honest about how I felt without feeling the need to sugar coat anything to spare his comfort. I schooled him, alright! Argh! Hail the voice note!

Hey! Ha, this made me smile. You are so right about the beauty of being able to listen in your own time, no matter where you are! I hope your vacation is going well. look forward to hearing about it in a post maybe. I’m about to go read your latest one. 🙌

My daughter will send me voice notes now and again. It’s so much more lovely a way to stay connected than a text message

Oh I love this! Such a great point and one that I missed from my post. They are a lovely way to connect with your kids. In fact, it was my 13 year old who got me into them!! I love getting them from him when he’s not home. Thank you for sharing that 😊
